The Balanced Solopreneur

Finding Balance in a Busy World

When I worked a 9 to 5 job I longed to create daily habits but lacked consistency. The biggest challenges were time, energy and motivation at the end of the day. After the commute, a long day at the office and taking care of chores, errands and food prep, I struggled to find the time for other things.

How small steps led to big change

When I left the corporate world and embarked on my life as a solopreneur, I had big dreams of structuring my day so that I had time to incorporate the habits and routines that would contribute to my personal growth and overall well-being. With the freedom to create my schedule, I could finally prioritize what was important to me.

Find your game-changer

Committing to a daily movement and meditation practice, taking breaks outside and dedicating time to reading and journaling was a big game-changer for me. As I took the leap into solopreneurship, I discovered a way to design a life that aligned with my values while finding my purpose. I took it day by day as I started to build my brand, find my niche and live a balanced life.

Break up the day

Sitting at a desk for hours without a break isn’t good for the mind or body. While the demands of our work can often call for this, studies show increased productivity when one takes structured breaks. Over time, I have discovered things that help break up my day and bring me joy.

How I take five

Setting aside just 5 short minutes for a moment of balance goes a long way to reducing stress and improving productivity and creativity. If all I have is five minutes, so be it! Otherwise, I like to sprinkle these moments throughout my day and add on more time when I can.

Here are some of my favourites to help me feel balanced and clear my mind:

  1. Get outside - taking a moment for fresh air and sunshine greatly improves my mood

  2. Just breathe - if I meditate on it, I tend to enjoy a spike in creativity

  3. Move the body - taking a break from sitting with a big stretch is a must

  4. Read AM + PM - waking up the brain first thing and winding it down at the end of the day

  5. Journal reflections - whether it’s a short entry or a whole brain dump
